CPP Children's Benefit
CPP Children's Benefit
A monthly payment to the dependent children of someone receiving the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefit, or of a deceased CPP contributor.
Useful Tips for Applying
Apply as early as possible — payments can be backdated up to 12 months. For children 18–25, keep proof of full-time school attendance updated each semester.
Who May Qualify
Children under 18, or 18–25 if full-time students, who are the dependent children of a CPP disability beneficiary or a deceased CPP contributor.
Required Documents
The child's and parent's Social Insurance Numbers, the child's birth certificate or proof of dependency, and proof of full-time school attendance for children aged 18–25.
How to Apply
Apply online through My Service Canada Account or by mail using the CPP children's benefit application. You can also apply at the same time as the parent's CPP disability application.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Forgetting to update school status for 18–25 year olds, which stops payments. Not realizing the benefit exists separately from the parent's disability payment.
