BC Family Benefit

BCFB

A tax-free monthly payment that helps eligible BC families with the cost of raising children under 18.

Last reviewed: August 2026

Useful Tips for Applying

File taxes every year. Single parents receive an extra single-parent supplement. The benefit is higher for lower incomes.

Who May Qualify

BC families with children under 18 and an adjusted family net income below the set thresholds. Lower incomes receive higher amounts, and single-parent families receive a top-up.

Required Documents

A filed tax return and a child registered for the Canada Child Benefit.

How to Apply

Apply through the Canada Child Benefit — families receive the BC Family Benefit automatically. There is no separate application; BC administers it through your tax filings.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not filing taxes, which means no payment. Assuming the benefit is only for very low income — most families receive something.
