BC Housing Rental Assistance Program

BC RAP

The BC Housing Rental Assistance Program (RAP) provides monthly rent subsidies to low-income working families with children who rent in the private market. The subsidy helps make rent more affordable so families can stay housed while working.

Useful Tips for Applying

If your income has dropped, apply even if you earned more in a previous year — eligibility is based on current household income. Families receiving income or disability assistance are generally not eligible, so check the rules if your situation is changing. Reapply promptly each year to avoid a gap in subsidy.

Who May Qualify

You may qualify if your total before-tax annual household income is $60,000 or less, you have at least one dependent child, you rent in the private market (not subsidized housing), you are employed (working families), and you meet citizenship and BC residency requirements.

Required Documents

Proof of BC residency, proof of income for all household members, proof of rent (lease or rental agreement), and information about dependent children in the household.

How to Apply

Apply through BC Housing's RAP page. Existing clients must reapply each year to keep receiving the subsidy.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A common mistake is not reapplying each year, which stops the subsidy. Another is assuming only unemployed families qualify — this is a program for working families with children. People also miss that the income limit and eligibility expanded, so families who were previously over the limit may now qualify.
