MB Seniors Hearing Aid
A Manitoba government grant that provides eligible seniors with up to $2,000 toward the purchase of hearing aids, including the hearing assessment and fitting. One claim of up to $2,000 per person can be made every 5 years. Batteries, repairs, ear mold replacements, and loss or damage replacement costs are not eligible. If you have private insurance that covers hearing aids, it pays first and the amount is deducted from the $2,000 maximum.
Useful Tips for Applying
Eligible hearing aid purchases must occur after you are approved; claims for purchases before June 7, 2023 cannot be accepted retroactively. Private insurance pays first if it covers hearing aids.
Who May Qualify
Manitoba residents who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, age 65 or over, with a household net income below $80,000 in the previous year, who require hearing aids as prescribed by a certified hearing aid dealer licensed in Manitoba.
Required Documents
A completed application form; a CRA Proof of Income statement from the previous full tax year (including your spouse or partner's income if married or in a common-law relationship); and a hearing assessment document from a licensed hearing aid dealer indicating hearing loss that requires hearing aids.
How to Apply
Submit the application form, proof of income, and hearing assessment by mail or in person to Manitoba Seniors Hearing Aid Program, Provincial Services, 100-114 Garry Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4V4, or by fax to 204-948-2143. If approved, you receive a letter to bring to your hearing aid dealer, who applies the amount up to $2,000 at the point of sale. Eligible purchases must be made after approval and within 6 months.
