New Brunswick Respiratory Program

NB Respiratory

New Brunswick's Respiratory Program helps eligible clients with the cost of respiratory equipment and supplies not covered by other agencies or private health insurance. It covers breathing aids, respiratory equipment, and related supplies that clients need to manage a respiratory condition at home.

Last reviewed: September 2026

Useful Tips for Applying

Ask about ongoing supplies, not just the initial equipment, since respiratory conditions often need continuous supplies. Check your private insurance and other programs first. Keep your prescription and supply records current so refills are covered.

Required Documents

A prescription or referral from a health professional for the respiratory equipment or supplies, proof that they are not covered by another agency or private insurance, and confirmation of your eligibility as a Social Development client or assisted health care recipient.

How to Apply

Apply through the New Brunswick Department of Social Development with a prescription or referral for the respiratory equipment or supplies. They must not be covered by another agency or private insurance.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A common mistake is not checking other coverage first, since this program is a payer of last resort. Another is buying equipment before approval. People also miss that supplies (not just equipment) can be covered, so ask about ongoing supply needs.
