QC Basic Income
The Basic Income Program provides income to Quebec adults with a long-term disability or impairment that severely limits their ability to work. It replaces the Social Solidarity Program for people who have had severely limited capacity for employment for an extended period, and offers a higher, more stable benefit along with greater financial flexibility if you earn some income.

If you are on Social Solidarity and have had severely limited capacity for employment for a long time, you may be moved to the Basic Income Program automatically, with a higher benefit. You can earn some income without losing your full benefit, so ask about the rules before working. Keep your medical documentation current.
Who May Qualify
You may qualify if you are a Quebec resident with a long-term disability or impairment that severely limits your capacity for employment. You are automatically admitted if you already receive the Social Solidarity Program and have had severely limited capacity for employment for at least 66 months out of the previous 72 months.
Required Documents
Proof of Quebec residency, government-issued ID, and medical documentation of a severe, long-term limitation in your capacity for employment. If you are already on Social Solidarity, your file is reviewed automatically.
How to Apply
If you already receive the Social Solidarity Program and have had severely limited capacity for employment for the required period, you are automatically admitted to the Basic Income Program. Otherwise, apply through the Quebec government Social Assistance and Social Solidarity page.

A common mistake is not knowing you may be admitted automatically, so some people do not realize they have switched programs. Another is assuming you cannot work at all — the Basic Income Program allows you to earn some income without losing your benefit. People also confuse it with the older Social Solidarity Program, which it replaces for long-term cases.
