VAC Pain and Suffering Compensation
VAC PSC
A tax-free monthly payment from Veterans Affairs Canada for eligible veterans whose disability is related to service. Introduced in 2019 under Pension for Life, it provides monthly payments or a lump sum based on the severity of the condition. As of 2026, the 100% monthly rate is $1,419.82, while the maximum lump sum is $461,956.71. Additional Pain and Suffering Compensation (APSC) may provide up to $1,851.93 more per month for those with severe permanent impairments.
Useful Tips for Applying
• You can receive PSC alongside the Income Replacement Benefit (IRB), which ensures a minimum pre-tax income of $60,002.64 per year in 2026 • Monthly payments are tax-free and indexed to inflation annually • If you choose the monthly option and die before the total value is paid, the remainder goes to your survivor • Even a 1% disability rating qualifies you for a small monthly payment or lump sum
Who May Qualify
You may qualify if: • You are a Canadian Armed Forces veteran or RCMP member/veteran • You have a service-related physical or mental health condition • You applied for disability benefits on or after April 1, 2019
