NWT IA Disability
NWT income assistance for seniors and persons with disabilities, administered by the Department of Education, Culture and Employment alongside the standard Income Assistance Program, with its own application form. The seniors and persons with disabilities stream is assessed alongside the Senior Home Heating Subsidy using the same application, and caseworkers can help determine which stream fits.

A Client Navigator can help you complete the application and compare this stream with standard Income Assistance. Supplementary health benefits may be available in addition to financial assistance. Report changes in your situation promptly.
NWT residents with a disability, and seniors, whose need is greater than their income. Financial eligibility is assessed by ECE using income and asset rules set out in the Income Assistance Policy Manual.

NWT Home and Community Care
NWT Home and Community Care Services provide nursing care and support for personal care and daily living activities when people can no longer do these themselves, so they can stay at home rather than go to hospital or long-term care. Services include home support for bathing and making meals, nursing for wound care and health checks, help organizing and taking medications, palliative care for people who want to be at home, loan of equipment such as bathroom equipment or a walker, and respite care so caregivers can get a break.

Plan Institute is a Canadian non-profit and registered charity that helps people with disabilities and their families plan for a good life. Its free national Disability Planning Helpline offers one-on-one support with the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), the Canada Disability Benefit, wills and trusts, and future and financial planning. Plan Institute also offers free webinars and online courses on the RDSP, DTC, and building personal support networks. The helpline is free, confidential, and available across Canada by phone, email, and online request form.
