NWT Seniors Aging in Place

NWT Aging in Place

The NWT Seniors Aging in Place funding helps residents 60 and older lower their home energy costs or do home repairs so they can keep living independently in their own homes and communities. It is designed to help seniors stay in their homes rather than move to care.

Last reviewed: September 2026

Useful Tips for Applying

You can apply at 60, younger than the 65 threshold of some seniors programs, so apply as soon as you qualify. List both energy and repair needs, since the program covers both. Apply before a repair or energy cost forces you to move, since the goal is to help you stay in your home.

Who May Qualify

You may qualify if you are an NWT resident 60 or older and the home is your primary residence. The funding can be used to lower home energy costs or do home repairs to help you keep living independently.

Required Documents

Proof you are an NWT resident 60 or older, proof that the home is your primary residence, and details of the energy upgrades or home repairs you need.

How to Apply

Apply through the NWT Housing Corporation Aging in Place program. You must be an NWT resident 60 or older and the home must be your primary residence.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A common mistake is not knowing the program is for residents 60 and older, lower than the 65 threshold of some seniors programs. Another is not listing both energy and repair needs, since the program covers both. People also miss that the goal is to keep you in your home, so apply before a repair or energy cost forces a move.
