PEI Community Nutrition Program

PEI Nutrition

The PEI Community Nutrition Program gives Islanders access to registered dietitians for nutrition counseling and education to promote healthy eating and help manage chronic conditions. It supports people who want to improve their nutrition or manage a health condition through diet.

Last reviewed: September 2026

Useful Tips for Applying

Bring a list of your medications and any health conditions to your appointment so the dietitian can tailor advice. If a referral is needed, ask your doctor to provide one. The program can help you manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease through diet.

Required Documents

A valid PEI Health Card, and (for some services) a referral from your doctor or health care provider.

How to Apply

Call the PEI Community Nutrition Program or email the public health nutrition team to arrange to speak with a registered dietitian. Referrals may be required depending on the service you need.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

A common mistake is not knowing the service is available to all PEI residents with a valid Health Card, not just people with a diagnosed condition. Another is not providing your medical history, which helps the dietitian tailor advice. People also miss that a referral may be needed for some services.
