Nova Scotia Housing Repair Program
NS Housing Repair
The Housing Repair stream of Nova Scotia's Housing Repair and Accessibility Program helps low- and moderate-income homeowners pay for emergency and health-and-safety home repairs so their home remains safe to live in. It provides grants and forgiveable or low-interest loans for eligible repairs.
Useful Tips for Applying
Confirm your repairs qualify as emergency or safety-related before applying. Check the income and property value limits for your region, since they differ between Halifax Regional Municipality and the rest of the province. Keep your property taxes up to date, since unpaid taxes can disqualify you.
Required Documents
Proof that you own and have lived in the home for at least 1 year, proof the home is at least 5 years old, household income and investment asset information, property tax status, and details of the emergency or safety repairs needed.
How to Apply
Apply through the Nova Scotia government Housing Repair and Accessibility Program page for home repairs. All property owners and household members 19 or older must sign the application.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
A common mistake is applying for non-urgent renovations, which are not covered — the program is for emergency and safe-occupancy repairs. Another is having investment assets over $25,000, which disqualifies you. People also miss that recent previous repair grants or loans can affect eligibility.
