Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living
SAIL
The Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living (SAIL) program provides benefits that help people with physical disabilities live more independently and manage certain chronic health conditions. It is made up of multiple sub-programs covering equipment, supplies, and services such as mobility devices, oxygen, and ostomy supplies, some of which are universal and others income-tested.

Ask your health care professional to refer you for the specific equipment or supply you need. Some sub-programs are universal (available to anyone who qualifies clinically), so apply even if your income is higher. Check that you are not already covered for the same item through SGI, Workers' Compensation, Health Canada, or Veterans Affairs.

You may qualify if you are a Saskatchewan resident with a valid Saskatchewan Health Services Number, are referred for service by an authorized health care professional, use the service in Saskatchewan (unless pre-authorized), and do not receive the same benefits from SGI, the Workers' Compensation Board, Health Canada's Non-Insured Health Benefits Program, or Veterans Affairs.

A common mistake is buying equipment before a referral, which may mean it is not covered. Another is not knowing that some sub-programs are income-tested while others are universal. People also miss that you cannot receive SAIL benefits if you are eligible for the same items from SGI, the Workers' Compensation Board, Health Canada's Non-Insured Health Benefits, or Veterans Affairs.
