BC Home Owner Grant for People with Disabilities
BC HOG-PWD
The BC Home Owner Grant for people with disabilities reduces the amount of residential property tax you pay each year on your principal residence. You can qualify either through receiving provincial disability assistance, or by meeting the spending threshold for disability-related help or home modifications.
Conseils utiles pour la demande
You can apply under whichever option fits your situation. If your home's assessed value is above the grant threshold, you may still receive a partial grant and may also qualify for the Low Income Grant Supplement. You must live in the home as your principal residence. Apply every year, even if little changes.
Qui peut être admissible
You may qualify if you are the registered owner of the home, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, live in BC, occupy the home as your principal residence, and your property assessment is below the grant threshold. You must also meet Option A (you receive provincial disability assistance under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act) or Option B (you, your spouse, or a relative living with you is a person with disabilities and you pay at least $150/month for daily-living assistance or have spent at least $2,000 on qualifying home modifications).
Documents requis
Your annual property tax notice, and (if requested) a Confirmation of Assistance from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, or Form B (Certificate of Health Professional and Property Owner) showing qualifying modifications of at least $2,000, or proof of at least $150/month in daily-living assistance.
Comment présenter une demande
Apply each year through your municipal or provincial property tax notice. If the ministry asks, provide a Confirmation of Assistance or a completed Home Owner Grant Consent for Release of Information form, or Form B for the home-modification option.
Erreurs courantes à éviter
A common mistake is thinking CPP-D or other federal disability programs qualify you — only provincial disability assistance (Option A) or the spending/modification criteria (Option B) do. Another is not applying every year; the grant must be claimed annually. People also miss that a retroactive claim is possible for the previous year if they forgot to apply.
