Disability Related Employment Supports

DRES

Disability Related Employment Supports (DRES) provides funding for supports and services that help Albertans overcome disability-related barriers to employment or education. This can include assistive technology, sign language interpretation, job coaching, tutoring, and other workplace or educational supports tailored to your needs.

Conseils utiles pour la demande

Think broadly about the supports that would help you succeed — DRES can fund equipment, software, interpreters, attendants, and coaching. If you receive AISH, Income Support, or ADAP, DRES can work alongside those programs. Connect with an Alberta employment service provider for ongoing job-search and retention help.

Qui peut être admissible

You may qualify if you are an Alberta resident, have a documented disability that affects your ability to work or study, are legally entitled to work in Canada, and are actively seeking employment or training. You do not need to be receiving other disability benefits to apply.

Documents requis

Documentation of your disability that affects employment or education, proof of Alberta residency, proof you are legally entitled to work in Canada, and a description of the employment or education goal and the supports needed.

Comment présenter une demande

Apply through the Alberta government DRES page or with the help of an Alberta Supports Centre. You will need to describe the disability-related barriers you face and the supports you need to work or study.

Erreurs courantes à éviter

A common mistake is assuming DRES is only for people already working — it also supports people preparing for or training for work and education. Another is not asking for the full range of supports you need; DRES can fund technology, interpretation, coaching, and more. People also miss that you can be referred to employment service providers for ongoing help.

ADAPProvincial

Alberta Disability Assistance Program

ADAP is Alberta's disability income program for Albertans 18+ whose severe disability significantly impedes employment (continuously or episodically) but does not prevent it. Launched July 2026, it provides a $1,740/month core financial benefit, health and personal benefits, and higher employment-income exemptions than AISH. AISH clients who transitioned to ADAP in July 2026 receive a $200 monthly transition benefit that keeps their financial benefit equal to their existing AISH amount until December 31, 2027. There is one combined application for AISH and ADAP. For full eligibility, income rules, working on ADAP, and the AISH-to-ADAP transition, see our ADAP guide.
