Canada Workers Benefit – Disability Supplement
CWB-D
The Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) is a refundable tax credit for low-income working people. If you are approved for the Disability Tax Credit, you may also receive the CWB disability supplement — an extra amount on top of the basic CWB to help offset the additional costs of working while living with a disability.
Conseils utiles pour la demande
Get your Disability Tax Credit approved before tax season so the supplement can be applied automatically when you file. If you have a spouse, both of you must be approved for the DTC to each receive the supplement. The supplement is refundable, meaning you can receive it even if you owe no tax.
Qui peut être admissible
You may qualify for the disability supplement if you are working and earning income, you are approved for the Disability Tax Credit (with a completed Form T2201 on file with the CRA), and your adjusted family net income falls within the program's limits. The supplement begins to reduce once your adjusted family net income is above a set threshold and is not paid above a maximum income.
Documents requis
An approved Disability Tax Credit certificate (Form T2201) on file with the CRA, and your T4 employment income slips (or other earned income records). You claim the CWB on your annual tax return (Schedule 6).
Comment présenter une demande
There is no separate application — you claim the Canada Workers Benefit and the disability supplement on your annual income tax return using Schedule 6. Ensure your Form T2201 is already approved by the CRA before you file so the supplement can be calculated.
Erreurs courantes à éviter
The most common mistake is claiming the CWB without first having an approved Form T2201 on file, which means the disability supplement will not be paid. Another is assuming the supplement replaces the basic CWB — it is paid in addition to it. People also miss that the supplement reduces as income rises.
