Programme fédéral

Canada Disability Benefit

Canada DB

The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is a federal monthly benefit providing direct financial support to low- and modest-income working-age Canadians (ages 18 to 64) with disabilities. Payments began in July 2025. The maximum benefit for the July 2026–June 2027 benefit year is $204.20 per month ($2,450.40 per year). The benefit is income-tested based on the previous year's federal income tax return. Starting in fall 2026, the government will also pay a one-time supplemental $150 lump-sum payment to help offset the cost of obtaining the Disability Tax Credit (DTC). It is issued automatically — no separate application — to anyone who received a CDB payment before September 2026, even if they are no longer receiving monthly payments, with the first supplemental payments issued on September 17, 2026.

Conseils utiles pour la demande

• You MUST have an approved DTC first — apply to CRA before applying for CDB • File your taxes every year — eligibility is re-confirmed annually based on your tax return • Back payments are available for up to 24 months from application date, but not before July 2025 • Maximum benefit increased to $204.20/month for 2026-27 (up from $200/month) — indexed to inflation annually • Many provincial programs (e.g., BC PWD, Manitoba MSPD) do NOT deduct the CDB — check your provincial program • Alberta AISH currently deducts the CDB — monitor for changes during the ADAP transition • Payments arrive on the third Thursday of each month • Contact Service Canada: 1-800-206-7218 | TTY: 1-800-529-3742 • One-time $150 supplemental payment (September 2026): CDB recipients receive an extra $150 lump sum for each approved DTC certificate that entitles them to a CDB payment — including people whose monthly payment is $20 or less, and anyone who received a CDB payment before the change takes effect. You do not need to apply; it is paid automatically. This is separate from your regular monthly amount. Comment présenter une demande

1. Ensure you have an approved Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate. 2. File your federal income tax return for the previous year. 3. Apply online through the official Canada Disability Benefit portal or contact Service Canada. 4. If approved, payments begin the month after your application is received and processed.

Erreurs courantes à éviter

• Applying without an approved DTC first — the DTC is mandatory • Not filing taxes — CDB eligibility is confirmed through your tax return each year • Not knowing that back payments are available for up to 24 months • Assuming provincial benefits will be reduced — many provinces have confirmed they won't deduct CDB
